I was skeptical. It took a long time to get my order, and they didn't have a super-responsive customer service section for you to check on your order. I thought I might be out the money I spent and was ready to chalk it up as a life lesson. Then it arrived. Looked good, felt solid. It's actually heavy compared to a lot of the keymod stuff out there. Not much railspace, no way to mount a backup iron sight. I've been shooting it now for about a year. Probably run a couple thousand rounds through it, used both red-dots and magnified optics. It lands the hits. I've dumped bullets inside 100 (not ideal for a CQB rifle, but it will do it), and run back to 500 to lay down well-aimed shots with a 9X optic. I wouldn't go so far as to hold it up as a precision rifle (haven't tried that yet), but it will consistently perform out to 500 with no trouble. If you missed, YOU missed, the rifle is sound.
Very nice upper. Fit and finish is very good. Can't beat the deal I got and will do business again. Worth the wait. Hope to see more products from them , maybe some retro (M16 A1) uppers and lowers---hint, hint.
I was planning to build an upper and was looking for unique parts when I stumbled on Black Aura. I was specifically looking to build a 16" upper with a medium contour barrel because the lightweight stuff I shoot now gets really hot with sustained fire. I've never bought an assembled upper (or a complete AR) until now. I like to pick and choose my components. I don't need extravagant parts, but I am pretty picky. This upper has a slick side receiver, which I like. There's no real need where I live to have a dust cover. I'm not left-handed. I don't find the forward assist to be particularly helpful. This thing looks good and has no moving parts to break. The picture doesn't really do it justice. The barrel has a 223 Wylde chamber which is a premium feature. I would have preferred a mid-length gas system (for recoil feel), but there's nothing wrong with carbine length. The handguard is really nice looking. It's substantial. I don't think my rifle is going to get hot enough to be uncomfortable to shoot. If you think every rifle has to have BUIS, maybe look at the model that has a Pic rail on the gas block. I don't like to run a ton of gear on every gun. This upper, for how I'm using it, doesn't need to have Pick rail and Key Mod and M Lok. So, maybe in the "con" column, I can't attach my phaser and chainsaw bayonet. In the "pro" column, it's easy to grip, looks super and keeps me from getting burned. The linear compensator is kind of a bonus. I've not shot one before and if I don't love it, they at least make it easy to take it off. The build quality is great. I can't find anything to complain about. My lower is looking a little shabby in comparison, but I'll use that as an opportunity...
Super nice upper , feels nice in hand . Can not build for less ! Cant wait to shoot it
