This quality .458 SOCOM upper assembly is based on Black Aura’s AR 15 slick side extruded upper receiver. This slick side upper is the heart of a .458 SOCOM upper assembly that brings the perfect blend of value, performance and quality to the consumer in a 16" complete upper that you can be proud to show off at the range. From the stainless barrel with attached stainless muzzle brake to the extended tactical latch charging handle, the B.A.T. Complete .458 SOCOM Upper Assembly is ready to put on a show. This includes the assembled gas system with a 0.875” gas block and a complete .458 bolt carrier group. All you need is your completed lower and the pins to marry them.

The barrel features the much-touted .458 SOCOM chamber for accuracy with .458 SOCOM rounds. The barrel features rifling with a 1:14 twist rate. This completed upper assembly by Black Aura Tactical leaves nothing to chance. Even the solid-bodied, machined billet handguard is a cut above the rest. It’s strong and secure and free floats so it won’t interfere with the completed rifle's accuracy. Step up to a Black Aura complete 16-inch .458 SOCOM AR-15 upper, and step up to quality and performance you can count on.

Pull the trigger on this purchase

This is my second upper assembly I have purchased from the company I will always refer to as Digital Machining to my buddies. I have yet to have anyone I have gone shooting or hunting with, whether a civilian gun snob or ex-military, have anything but positive things to say about any of their products I have brought into the field.
I'm not really good at leaving positive reviews, but I'm giving it a shot because this company is top notch.
I took it out into the pasture today just to try it out, and man is this thing a hoot.
I slapped a cheapo red dot on it, slapped it on a lower receiver I had put together just for this, gave it a quick bore sighting, and took it out to the pasture to plink some pumpkins the wildlife have been refusing to eat.
Slinging 350gn HP pills from an ar-15 is an interesting experience, they leave some big holes.
The brake looked to me to be a generic oval tanker style in the pictures, but it's round with straight channels, and surprisingly doesn't make this rifle miserably loud to the shooter. To be fair though, this is a large bore, double up, don't just wear plugs.
The stainless barrel puts this over the top vs others for the price, and the quality doesn't leave anything behind.
This rifle is proudly 100% manufactured in the USA and declares it in multiple places, it's even stamped into the barrel. The bolt is labeled MPI, so you don't have to question it holding up, and the BCG is, as always from BAT, and M-16 carrier.
There is now a BAT emblem on the top of the charging handle that lines up under the one on top of the receiver at the rear of the rail, but they have them facing opposite directions, they may change the direction of the one on the charging handle once they see this review, then they would line up perfectly under each other.
The upper is thicker walled than a standard receiver, but it has a nicely machined inset area for your bolt release lever.
I cannot testify as to the accuracy of the rifle as yet, but I was hitting 8-10" pumpkins at 30' easily without any real sighting in. I have no concerns that this will be more than accurate enough for my purposes, which will be hunting heavy cover in coulees at ranges under 200 yards, something I have used a 30-30 for until deciding to go this route.
I don't have a preference for what brand my AR parts are, I like fit, form, and function, and have yet to be disappointed by BAT/Digital's products.
I do wish it had a forward assist, but that is due to my handloads (the BCG does have the notches for it). If you question why it's only available in their slick sided upper, it's because the ejection port has to be widened up so much for the .458 cases. A hybridized upper receiver with the forward assist added would be nice, but that would need to be a version of their billet upper to be cost effective, which would then make this rifle more expensive.
There's a lead time after you order, but this is an OEM supplier who is selling to the general public, they are cutting out the middleman and giving you one heckuva deal on a quality product, and they aren't requiring you to order 2000 of the product like many of their customers will.
All-in -all, I will be ordering more of their products in the future, it would be great if they eventually offered a 7,62x39 chambering as well as pistol calibers, but how's that saying about wish in one hand go again?
